Royally Gorgeous!
by Erin Magner | Angeleno magazine | August 24, 2011Anyone who’s been in front of as many cameras as Jaime King is sure to have learned a thing or two about beauty. This fall, the former face of Revlon not only appears as a Southern debutante on the new CW dramedy Hart of Dixie, but also takes on a role as lifestyle columnist for The Huffington Post.
Have any elements of the debutante look worked their way into your daily beauty routine? The whole look for my character, Lemon Breeland, came from my actual life! I did very classic, Grace Kelly hair and makeup for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel [in September last year], and they used that as the basis for my character’s look.
So what’s the secret to looking like a Southern belle? The key thing is really beautiful skin, so I exfoliate with Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate every other day. Then I use La Mer cleansing foam and moisturizing lotion. I think people have this notion that if you use La Mer, it’s really extravagant, but I’m not that kind of La Mer user. I just use tiny dabs. I also like Koh Gen Do Liquid Aqua foundation. It’s really sheer and pure-feeling, but it’s got great, high-definition coverage.
What about when you want to get glammed up for an evening? I use Dior Beauty’s five-color eye shadow palettes. You can use [them] for your base lid color, your eyeliner, in the crease, everywhere.
Best beauty trick you’ve ever picked up on set? Learning how to contour and highlight your face using makeup. I learned from makeup artist Wendy Rowe, but YouTube is also a really great resource for learning how to do things like that.
Do you have any bad habits when it comes to beauty? I think my only bad habit is what every woman is plagued with—saying that I’m not good enough. In the moments that I’m judging myself, I’m reminded that I’m comparing myself to a barometer of beauty that’s unrealistic and unhealthy.
