Ken Burns presents "The Roosevelts" at The Theatre at Ace Hotel
Ken Burns will be in Los Angeles on Tuesday, July 22 to present a special preview of highlights from his new seven-part series, THE ROOSEVELTS: AN INTIMATE HISTORY, at the historic Theater at Ace Hotel (929 South Broadway, Los Angeles). The 60-minute screening, presented by PBS SoCal, will begin at 7:30, followed by a discussion with Mr. Burns and Steven Ujlaki, Dean, Loyola University School of Film and Television.
THE ROOSEVELTS: AN INTIMATE HISTORY will air for seven consecutive nights beginning on Sunday, September 14, 2014 on PBS. The film weaves the stories of Theodore, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, three members of one of the most prominent and influential families in American politics. The series marks the first time their individual stories have been woven into a single narrative.
Based on Burns’s track record when it comes to long-form documentary filmmaking, his seven-part, 14-hour documentary on the Roosevelts—Theodore, Franklin, and Eleanor—will be another gem, “a factual Downton Abbey,” he says.
Award-winning actress Meryl Streep portrays Eleanor in the readings and writings that tell her story. Burns calls Streep “a magician” in the way she transforms herself into the former First Lady simply through her voice. Joining Streep are Paul Giamatti as the voice of Theodore Roosevelt and Edward Herrmann, two-time Emmy Award nominee for his performances as Franklin Roosevelt, as the voice of FDR.
