THE PARTY The 2011 UNICEF Ball, held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, honoring Irena, Nick and Mike Medavoy for their continued service to children, as well as recognizing the humanitarian efforts of Queen Noor of Jordan THE PLAYERS Sean Penn, Nicole Richie, Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, Lyn and Norman Lear, Susie Ekins, Jerry Weintraub, Shawn and Larry King THE HIGHLIGHTS The evening was all about the kids with an opening performance by the Colburn Children’s Choir—who, after spotting Glee’s Matthew Morrison in the crowd, all ran backstage screaming “Mr. Schuester was there!” Adding to the thrills, the biggest auction item (trumping lunch with Queen Noor) was a VIP package for 12 at a Selena Gomez concert complete with backstage passes and a private meet-and-greet with the starlet. The possibility of Justin Bieber himself, Gomez’s beau, also making an appearance caused a widespread bidding war and concluded with the hot commodity being sold to the two highest bidders. THE BOTTOM LINE The event raised $1.3 million for the children’s organization.
