Bend It Like Beckley

Beckley Boutique has been a staple on a designer-heavy strip of Melrose Avenue since it opened in 2008.
Over the course of its five years, Beckley’s owner, Melissa Akkaway, grew her business by fashionable leaps and bounds, launching a second outpost in Las Vegas, an online store and her own celebrity-friendly private-label line, Beckley by Melissa. And so the well-curated shop known for superb customer service soon outgrew its quaint home. Its larger 2,500-square-foot location on West 3rd Street officially opens this month and with it comes an array of designers new to the boutique, including Phillip Lim, Drkshdw by Rick Owens, Opening Ceremony and Victoria Beckham denim, to name a few.
“[The move] made sense all around, both from a business-need standpoint and because we always want to adapt to our clients’ needs,” says Akkaway, who calls Pacific Palisades home with her husband and 3-year-old son, Jack. The new store’s interiors are based on a color palette of warm grays and creams set off by pops of Beckley’s signature orange, and movable walls allow the VIP lounge—which boasts its own fitting room and bar—to quickly become a private space, enabling the Hollywood set to purchase in peace, away from the glare of paparazzi flashes. “I hope people identify with Beckley,” she says. “I choose each and every piece the store carries.” 8128 W. 3rd St., L.A., 310.652.3500, beckleyboutique.com
