Reality Chic

“It was getting kind of sad at dinner parties,” says Christos Garkinos, co-founder of Decades, L.A.’s couture consignment mecca. “I’d look around the room and every one of my friends had a Bravo show except for me.” This month Garkinos is no longer the odd man out.

Dukes of Melrose, a 12-episode series that follows Garkinos’ glamorous retail adventures with his business partner, the famed couture collector Cameron Silver, begins its Bravo run on Wednesday nights. The pair have been influential fixtures on the L.A. fashion circuit since their boutique’s 1997 opening, but how will the show differ from other reality offerings? “We’re hunters and gatherers,” Garkinos says. “We go around the world looking for pieces that we try to sell to stylists like Rachel Zoe and Brad Goreski for their clients. It’s important for any girl—whether she’s a celebrity or working [professional]—to have her red-carpet moment.” Still, expect plenty of celeb cameos (Dita Von Teese, Sandra Bernhard, Rose McGowan, Garcelle Beauvais, Ashley Madekwe and Phyllis Diller in her final television appearance), as well as the wry repartee between Silver and Garkinos. “My hair is a lot more gray!” he jokes of their relationship. “We’re both competitive—with each other and with everybody else. There’ll be some drama, but you’ll learn something about fashion and laugh a lot.” And now, Garkinos will be laughing too.
