The opulent ballroom at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago served as the perfect setting for Visionnaire, the 47th annual auction gala hosted by The University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation Women’s Board.
More than 500 guests sipped signature dusty rose martinis and Champagne before being seated for an elegant candlelit dinner, the highlight of which was a delectable dessert trio of warm chocolate pudding cake, pumpkin creme brulee and almond cake with poached pears. A post-dinner live auction put the trappings of luxury living on the block, including a lustworthy made-to-order alligator Ricky bag from Ralph Lauren, a gold and diamond bracelet watch from Verdura and a two-week stay in a private home in the south of France, all of which contributed to the more than $1 million raised during the night.
Presidential Medal of Freedom winner and longtime Chicagoan Dr. Janet Rowley, recipient of the gala’s Partners in Discovery Award for her groundbreaking work in cancer research, brought the impassioned crowd to its feet with her acceptance speech. –Photos by Cheri Eisenberg, Dan Rest and Michelle Wodzinski Photography
