Fab 5: Ways to Celebrate July 4th in Chicago

A vibrant display of fireworks at Navy Pier

1. Shoreline Architecture Fireworks Tour
While the city of Chicago ditched its signature fireworks display a few years ago, Navy Pier picked up the slack with its very own, a combination of vivid colors and shapes that will leave you in awe. To avoid the crowds and gain front row acess to the Pier’s fireworks desplay, take to this 90-minute cruise. 8:30PM. Tickets $69. Pioneer Court, 401 N. Michigan Ave., 312.222.9328

2. Navy Pier Freedom Fest
If you’re prone to seasickness (we don’t blame you!), head over to Navy Pier’s rooftop for its third annual Freedom Fest, an exclusive celebration for the whole family complete with stunning views of the fireworks, a live DJ and a full bar. Toast freedom in style through booking a private table for up to a dozen of your closest friends and family. 6:30PM. Tables from $150. Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave., 312.595.7437

3. Grant Park Music Festival’s Independence Day Salute
Relax in the park for an evening of patriotic favorites by an exclusive collaboration between the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and the National Youth Choir of Scotland. Navy Pier’s annual firework display perfectly lines up with the culmination of the performance, fully locking in the salutatory theme. And, if you’re hungry, choose from a variety of cocktails and hors d'oeuvres available for purchase at the park’s variety of food trucks (or, better yet, pack your own fare for the ultimate evening—wine and cheese, anyone?). 6:30PM. Front of the bowl seating $89. Grant Park, 337 E. Randolph St., 312.742.3918

4. The Terrace at Trump
With dynamic views of the city, a beautiful outdoor dining terrace and only 200 seats, the Terrace at Trump is set to be the spot to enjoy the Fourth’s festivities. A variety of boutique wines and an al fresco menu are matched with a lively outdoor ambience (fire pits and a state-of-the-art sound system? Yes please!), making the Terrace an ultimate destination. Be sure to try The Terrace’s new cocktails that feature its raw sugar cane press—we’re partial to the Caipirinha with lime, cachaca and fresh cane syrup. Tables $100 per person. 401 N. Wabash Ave., 312.588.8600

5. Ravinia Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Chick Corea, Chick Corea Trio, Ms. Lisa Fischer & Grand Baton
Between its plush sprawling lawn and open air pavilion, nothing says summer quite like Ravinia. Combine that with lively music from the renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and you have the recipe for the perfect Fourth celebration. Whether you want a more traditional concert experience or a picnic, the choice is yours. And if you want to fete the holiday with a larger group, look no further than the Lawncierge service, an all-inclusive experience for groups of 30 or more that includes an open bar and vibrant, freshly grilled menu. Don’t forget to stick around to watch Highland Park’s fireworks display later in the evening! 5PM. Lawncierge $250/person. 418 Sheridan Road, Highland Park, 847.266.5100
