The Party Educational nonprofit Facing History and Ourselves celebrated its multimedia exhibition Choosing to Participate, which examines the history of bigotry and injustice, and the impact of making daily choices to promote tolerance.The Scene More than 200 guests fêted the cause with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails in the Winter Garden of the Chicago Public Library’s Harold Washington Library Center while touring the exhibit. Twelve individuals and groups were chosen as Upstanders: Portraits of Courage. Among the honorees recognized for their initiatives to create positive change in Chicago communities were Mazher Ahmed, Henry Henderson, Nikki Jarvis and Tony Wasilewski. Photography by Robert Carl
