Opening day for the Chicago White Sox finally arrived and the anticipation was high as the Sox prepared to play against the Kansas City Royals to kick off the baseball season.

Photographer Jonathan Daniel positioned himself at the upper-deck level five at U.S. Cellular Field as the National Anthem reverberated around the stadium. While he had a request to photograph the entire stadium with both teams, he was inspired to try something different by shooting the single line of each team standing on the baseline. “I love the angles at U.S. Cellular Field from the upper deck positions,” says Daniel. “Opening day is always special but to get a nice, sunny, warm day early in April in Chicago almost never happens. It was chilly on the White Sox opening day but the sun made it seem more like baseball season.” Indeed, the weather and luck was on Chicago’s side that day as the White Sox defeated the Royals in a 1-0 win and Daniel achieved his winning shot.
