Doctor's Orders

Chevy Chase-based gastroenterologist and Dr. Oz regular Dr. Robynne Chutkan is attempting to bring sex appeal to fiber. This month, the women-centric doctor launches Gutbliss (gutbliss.com), a natural gastroceutical that moves the fix for bloat from the pharmacist to the beauty counter. Smartly packaged in individual 4-gram servings, Gutbliss offers pure plant fiber, setting it apart from other brands that heap additives into tub-like containers. “We hope that Gutbliss will allow women to realize that their digestive tract is an essential part of their beauty regimen,” says Dr. Chutkan, who adds that this “inner exfoliation” also offers “stool nirvana” and an “outer glow that no amount of face cream alone can accomplish.” Next is the launch of Gutbliss skincare, a line so natural that you can actually eat it.
The Doctor Is “In”
It’s more than just plastic surgeons who are interested in reversing the effects of aging these days. Dr. Delara Tavalkoli (5454 Wisconsin Ave., Chevy Chase, tavicare.com), a Chevy Chase-based obstetrician and gynecologist by training, has created an age management practice for women that uses bio-identical hormone therapy, among other methods, to restore and rejuvenate one’s body, and even sex life. Calling herself a lifestyle enhancer, she focuses on using holistic methods, nutraceuticals and lengthy consultations that include deep research into a patient’s health and lifestyle. While her methods are de rigueur on the West Coast, she’s starting to see traction here in DC. So many patients are seeking her out, she is set to open her practice to men in January.
Style Rx
Gone are the days of drafty paper robes and drab décor. At the city’s two newest doctors’ offices, patients enjoy a spa-like environment with cozy, flannel robes and soft sheets during their check-ups. The San Francisco-based physicians behind One Medical Group wanted to create a primary-care experience with a chic, relaxing vibe. “When you’re not feeling good, the last thing you want is a cold, sterile environment,” says Dr. Tom X. Lee, the founder of the group, which has its grand opening locally in January and also offers its membership-based services in the City by the Bay and New York. In addition to its sleek design, for an annual fee of $199, One offers same-day appointments and tech-savvy amenities. Patients can register online, exchange emails with their doctor and even use a new iPhone app for things like booking consultations. “Technology is so convenient today,” says Lee. “Incorporating it just makes sense.” 1001 G St. NW, 1627 Eye St. NW, onemedical.com/dc
