This month, Tory Burch opens her newest namesake boutique in Georgetown. We caught up with the caftan queen and got the scoop on her new beauty line, her favorite pieces for the season and why she was destined to open in Georgetown. Tory Burch, 1211 Wisconsin Ave. NW, toryburch.com
What makes Georgetown a great fit for Tory Burch?
It has always been on my radar. I’ve spent a lot of time there visiting friends and my brother, who went to Georgetown University. It’s a great cultural center, with an amazing history, restaurants and shops. DC women are often known for having a classic sense of style, but they’re also experimenting with fashion and embracing color and print.
Your line is always full of surprises. What can we look forward to in your fall and winter collections?
A collection inspired by the decorative styles of Gustav Klimt and René Lalique—free-spirited and romantic. We focused on the details: scarabs printed on dresses and embroidered on shoes, metallic prints and patterns, mixed textures and subtle volume.
What are some of your favorite pieces?
Our Robinson handbags are a perennial favorite of mine. For winter, we designed a satchel with subtle iridescence as a nod to scarab wings and our collection inspiration.
What’s on your holiday wish list?
Spotify play lists and a package of SoulCycle classes.
What can you tell us about Tory Burch Beauty?
We just launched our first fragrance and beauty capsule collection. The fragrance is not too sweet, not too earthy. The signature note is vetiver, which my father, brothers and I have all worn. It’s traditionally a masculine scent, but versatile enough for women to wear. The beauty collection includes a bronzer and blush, lip-and-cheek tint and lipstick—it reflects a less-is-more approach.
