In the nation’s capital, red, white and blue libations aren’t just for the Fourth of July. Celebrate the American spirit all summer long with some of our favorite patriotic potions.

1. Founding Farmers
Beverage Manager Jon Arroyo’s quintessential American mixed drink at the farm-to-table restaurant is a liquid homage to our nation’s supreme governing document. For The Constitution, Arroyo tops Fords gin infused with blueberries, ginger and chamomile tea with a spritz of lemon juice, soda water and simple syrup, garnished with a lemon wheel and fresh blueberries. “Who doesn’t like spiked lemonade on a hot summer day?” he says. “That spells patriotic to me!” $12, 1924 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, 202.822.8783

2. Lincoln
Whet your whistle with a summery sip that celebrates our 16th president, who was born during moonshine’s heyday. Lincoln proprietor Alan Popovsky touts the clean, summery taste that XXX Shine white whiskey adds to Honest Abe’s Moonshine, which mingles with housemade ginger syrup, fresh lemon sour and orange bitters, served up with a sugared rim. “Abe would have loved it,” says Popovsky. “It’s refreshing and gives you a lift.” $11, 1110 Vermont Ave. NW, 202.386.9200

3. 701
The Penn Quarter restaurant’s front-row seat to the Navy Memorial stirred Beverage Director Chris McNeal to create a cocktail in honor of the Navy Construction Battalion (aka the C.B. or SeaBees). His SeaBees Knees uses Leopold’s Navy Strength gin, lemon juice and lemongrass honey, served up and garnished with a long lemon peel. Says McNeal: “Sit on the patio; listen to the Navy Ceremonial Guard play; and raise a SeaBees Knees to those who protect our country on land, sea and air.” $12, 701 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, 202.393.0701

4. Copperwood Tavern
Beverage Program Director Boris Stojkovic’s Red, White and Blue plays up the patriotism with a cocktail that celebrates the colors of our grand old flag. Made with Leblon Cachaça, VeeV Açaí berry liqueur, raspberry puree and lime juice, the refreshing beverage is served over ice and topped with sweet lime foam and fresh blueberries to complete the flag-inspired spirit. $11, 4021 Campbell Ave, Arlington, Va., 703.552.8010

Todd Thrasher breathes new life into Neil Young’s classic post-Communism tune, reinventing it as a layered cocktail representing the colors of Old Glory at his rock-and-roll-inspired bar in Arlington. For the Rocking in the Free World, Thrasher carefully tops white rum with Rainier cherry syrup, garnished with dots of blue curaçao. “It’s the perfect drink to sip while I’m relaxing in my backyard with family and friends, playing bocce.” $10, 2413 Columbia Pike, Arlington, VA, 703.920.0315
