Houston Ballet supporters took center stage for a post-performance dinner at Wortham Theater.
After the final curtain call for Houston Ballet’s stunning Jubilee of Dance repertoire, 200 special guests joined Artistic Director Stanton Welch and a handful of the company’s principal dancers for an onstage dinner. Chaired by Kristy and Christopher Bradshaw, and Kelley and Stephen Lubanko, the event honored longtime ballet supporter Margaret Alkek Williams and raised more than $150,000.
Elaborately set tables—topped with festive evergreen centerpieces—covered the stage, which was framed with a backdrop of twinkling stars. As diners took their seats, they experienced a whimsical role reversal and became performers in the spotlight looking out into the massive auditorium.
Although the intimate dinner crowned the evening, the crowd couldn’t stop buzzing over the night’s earlier performance. A Swan Lake duet was juxtaposed with a jazzy piece from West Side Story, while excerpts from Welch’s sultry Divergence stole the show and had the audience in awe. -Ray Dennison
