Drake Abshire
“I was ready for big-city life,” says Abshire, 25, who moved here from quiet Abbeville, La., last year. And H-Town was ready for him. He’s become a top Page Parkes model and Fit Athletic Club trainer, with his strapping good looks and common-sense approach to fitness. Want to shape up for swimsuit season? He says leave your gym shoes by the door to remind yourself to work out; limit your carbs to daytime, and make sure they’re complex like sweet potatoes; keep to an exercise routine, even if it’s just a few days a week; and, if you’re serious, skip the booze for a bit. “You can’t expect changes if you don’t make changes.”

Tamar Mendelssohn
If anybody knows how to rock the water, it’s theshoediet.com blogger and longtime Tootsies sales associate Mendelssohn. Besides having a killer petite figure, the Houston native, just 28 years old, has been doling out style advice to H-Town fashionistas for nearly a decade. “I’m definitely on the contemporary, edgy side,” she says of her expertise. This season, the trends she’s calling out are graphic black-and-white patterns, soft pastel hues, flattering-to-almost-anyone “monotini” one-piece swimsuits with sexy cutouts, and bold print mixing, which she calls “power clashing.” And what’s the best accessory to bring to the pool, per Mendelssohn? “Confidence!”
