Filet Goes Femme
by Dennis Malcolm Byron | Jezebel magazine | December 29, 2011While billboards in major cities constantly battle to attract the split-second attention of pedestrians and drivers, there is one that currently reigns supreme. It features a woman from the waist down, donning a red lace miniskirt and matching stilettos that accentuate her flawless legs. Holding a meat hook suspending a prime cut of beef in one hand, and a glistening meat cleaver in the other, she stands next to the tagline: “…not your daddy’s steak house.” Justifying this racy advertisement is the emerging line of sexy, upscale restaurants called STK, with locations in the most celebrated trend-setting cities—New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and, now, Georgia’s capital.
Since the initial launch of STK—a high-end steak house and lounge fusion—in Manhattan’s revamped Meatpacking District in 2006, hospitality developers The ONE Group have continued to enliven the nation’s top social hubs from coast to coast with new locations. In addition to the existing strong presence of the arts with the High Museum and legendary Fox Theatre, Atlanta’s burgeoning Midtown Mile has welcomed the development of the towering Loews Atlanta Hotel, the skyscraping 1010 Midtown, new nightspots Vanquish and Reign, and a number of boutique shops and eateries. Now, STK further embellishes this district on the corner of 12th and Peachtree, and, judging from the more than 800 of Atlanta’s elite who flocked to its first events in December, it is ATL’s newest hot spot.
“STK is all about high-energy dining, and we’re excited to bring it to the ATL restaurant community,” The ONE Group’s Marketing Director Devon Mosely tells us. “The best part about STK is that it becomes what the locals make it,” he adds. Which means this spot will suit Atlanta to a T.
STK utilizes every one of its 9,000 square feet by flaunting mod décor that maintains the franchise’s signature look in both the dining and lounge areas: Plaster cast horns; contemporary platform seating and leather banquettes; intimate lighting; mirrored walls; and color tones of black gloss, violet and cream effectively set the cosmopolitan vibe. To cap it off, a DJ booth with turntables dominated by selections from the ’80s and ’90s, and two suites for private affairs named after famed burlesque stars Tempest Storm and Candy Barr, give it great energy.
Coupled with the delectable creations of Executive Chef Jeremy Miller (formerly of Bluepointe), the menu remains true to nationally renowned STK fare: steaks in three sizes, including the 34-ounce cowboy rib steak with a choice of toppings; foie gras French toast; shrimp rice crispies and the famous Wagyu beef sliders called lil’ BRGRs, to name a few. Palate refreshers include extraordinary social lubricants like the Green Intensity (Grey Goose Vodka, lime juice, serrano chile slices and basil leaves) and the Strawberry Cobbler (Ciroc Vodka and fresh strawberries with a graham cracker-crusted rim).
The ONE Group makes no secret of its mission to breach the confines of the run-of-the-mill, testosterone-driven steak house by making women its primary target. But, assures the thriving hospitality group, STK Atlanta’s fine dining and sexy nightlife will make everyone’s evening memorable, including daddy’s.
