The New York City Ballet kicks off its awe-inspiring winter season. The season begins on Jan. 17 with an impressive program by George Balanchine. As the six-week run continues, the New York City Ballet will introduce its first-ever all Christopher Wheeldon lineup, including a world premiere. Fans of the British-born choreographer and former NYCB soloist can also look forward to the NYC debut of DGV: Danse À Grande Vitesse, created for Britain’s Royal Ballet, and Polyphonia, developed for NYCB in 2001. Other highlights include Peter Martins’ Romeo + Juliet. The season runs from Jan. 17–Feb. 26. Tickets $29–$149. David H.
