Summer Schooled
by Nicole Berrie | Manhattan magazine | April 28, 20119. Go Green Had one too many poached-eggs-with-caviar power breakfasts this winter? Get your detox on at the three-story boutique-meets-café WellNest (125 Main St., Sag Harbor, 631.899.4600) with veggie concoctions and Dr. Ash supplements, or jog over to The Juicy Nam (27 Race Lane, East Hampton, 631.604.5091). Devotees of Organic Avenue (organicavenue.com) won’t want to miss its satellite beach shop—especially when cravings for its mint-cacao smoothie set in. 8. Main Events The glitterati cannot live by Bridgehampton polo alone. Get into the swing of things at the Hamptons Golf Classic June 27 (hamptonsgolfclassic.com). Or join the serious foodies at Taste of Two Forks July 16 (danshamptons.com)—the East End’s first ever food-and-wine festival, flaunting local cuisine from restos like Nick & Toni’s and the North Fork Table & Inn. 7. Club Scene Status is everything—even at the gym. Sweat alongside VIPs like Kelly Ripa at Soul Cycle (264 Butter Lane, Bridgehampton, 631.537.3630); tap Gwyneth Paltrow’s fitness guru Tracy Anderson (tracyandersonmethod.com) at her satellite dance studio; or spin with Tiki Barber at his Fly Wheel (1 Bay St., Sag Harbor, 631.899.4256). 6. Morning Rituals Veterans know to bypass the harrowing lines at Candy Kitchen for sidewalk Bellinis and pancakes ai mirtilli at Sant Ambroeus (80 Main St., Southampton, 631.283.1233), which this season boasts a stylish update from designer Robert McKinley. Catch power players making deals over crispy fritto misto at Gabby Karan’s newly opened second outpost of Tutto Il Giorno (56 Nugent St., Southampton). It’s where Page Six “Sightings” are born. 5. Local Treats Need to pick up some goodies en route to your friend’s place this weekend? Skip the wine and grab a few bags of Sylvester and Co. General Store’s (103 Main St., Sag Harbor, 631.725.5012) Dreamy Blend for the morning after. (It’s a Sunday-morning necessity.) Hosts with a sweet tooth will devour Levain Bakery’s (354 Montauk Highway, Wainscott, 631.537.8570) mouthwatering, hockey-puck-size cookies. Even their kids will thank you. 4. Short Shelf Life A new pack of pop-up shops revives the retail scene. Trina Turk (79 Main St., East Hampton) kicks off May 6 with colorful racks of preppy beachwear, home accents and beach-ready sandals. Cynthia Rowley (696 Montauk Highway, Montauk) opens its stylish surf shack brimming with the designer’s collection plus do-gooder FEED burlap sacks July 9. Iluka (764 Montauk Highway, #3, Montauk) stocks boho-chic swimwear brands like Bantu and Alexandra Cassaniti, perfect for Reggae Sundays at Surf Lodge. 3. Fresh Direct Movie stars, media barons and the Barefoot Contessa always pull over for Round Swamp Farm’s (184 Three Mile Harbor Road, East Hampton, 631.324.4438) guacamole and Pike’s Farm Stand’s (Sagg Main Street, Sagaponack) stellar produce and pies. Pike’s robust tomatoes and sweet summer corn—which Jim Pike plants every three days—would make Jamie Oliver swoon. 2. What Happens in the Hamptons… After sundown, the party starts at SL (44 Three Mile Harbor Road, East Hampton, 631.324.3332), where pretty young things dance, dance, dance. The Champagne-drenched brunch extravaganza Day and Night installs itself at East Hampton Point (295 Three Mile Harbor Road, 631.324.8400). Hangovers courtesy of establishments. 1. Invitation Only The season is a hit only if you make the proper rounds on the party circuit. Kick things off June 25 at Phoenix House Summer Party (phoenixhouse.org), then hobnob with fashion bigwigs July 23 at Steven Klein’s horse farm in Bridgehampton for ACRIA (acria.org), hosted by Calvin Klein. Russell Simmons holds Art for Life July 30 at his East Hampton estate (rushphilanthropic.org).
See you there!
