by Aminata Dia | Manhattan magazine | February 6, 2012

Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week kicks off Feb. 9, and what better way to get your fashion fix than by viewing some of the industry’s best designs from members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). To honor the organization’s five decades of fostering and promoting U.S.-based designers, the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology is presenting the exhibit Impact: Fifty Years of the CFDA. Expect to find approximately 100 garments and accessories from the likes of Narciso Rodriguez, Halston, Tom Ford, Geoffrey Beene and Rodarte, ranging from casual sportswear to couture-worthy gowns. Each piece is intended to reflect the designer’s contribution to and influence on American fashion. Feb. 10-April 17. Free. Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. 227 W. 27th St., 212.217.4558, fitnyc.edu
