Shopping Sensations
Will it rain again? That seemed to be the common question in fashionistas’ heads as the date for the shopping celebration known as Fashion’s Night Out neared. As ominous rain clouds came and went throughout the day, retail revelers’ weather worries intensified. In the end, Mother Nature was kind. A light sprinkle here and there did nothing to dampen spirits as Miami’s third FNO took over retail centers, boutiques and entire neighborhoods all over South Florida. Ground Central for all the action this year seemed to be the Design District, where there were all sorts of special events and sales just about everywhere one turned. Retailers like En Avance, Maison Martin Margiela, Marni and Sebastien James used the evening to showcase their latest fall collections to consumers. But the night wasn’t strictly about shopping. At The District Factory, DJ Mike Sike warmed up audiences prior to a live performance by Afrobeta. Just across the way, VIP guests and Soho Beach House members were treated to a preview of the Moore Building’s rooftop garden, a new private event space marked by tall trees and mini mazes. On the streets below, serious consumers engaged in a Twitter scavenger hunt with swag bags for the winners. >>> Further north at Aventura Mall, Fashion’s Night Out had more of a celebrity component. Countess LuAnn de Lesseps of The Real Housewives of New York, Empire Girls’ Julissa Bermudez, Fashion Star’s Luciana Scarabello and supermodel Niki Taylor made their way to Macy’s to host a runway fashion show featuring the season’s hottest trends. The agenda here also included style tips from fashion bloggers, makeup touch-ups, mini manicures and a painting party. >>> At Bal Harbour Shops, the evening was rather mellow compared to previous years. Programming was limited to a handful of boutiques and the mall’s two main anchors. At Saks Fifth Avenue, Miami magazine hosted a “late night of style” with Broken Shaker cocktails and tunes by DJ Mad Linx. Over at Neiman Marcus, the powers that be tapped in-demand stylist Danny Santiago to orchestrate a runway show with fall’s must-have looks. And Chloé used the occasion to introduce shoppers to its new iconic “Alice” bag with an exclusive in-store shopping event. Guests who made it to the boutique’s party were treated to a set by DJ Johnny The Boy as they shopped the brand’s fall/winter 2012 collection. “I don’t mind that it’s more low-key this year,” said BHS regular Josh Fein as the evening winded down. “Quality trumps quantity any time.Photography by Poshpanel.com & World Red Eye
