Lady & The Beat
With two albums under her belt, a family legacy in the business and musical greats like Norah Jones and Jill Scott as inspirations, singer/songwriter Cat Shell uses touches of neo-soul and R&B to inject a new breed of pop into the city’s live music scene. The fact that she looks great doing it doesn’t hurt either. “It’s a delicate balance as an entertainer to find what satisfies your soul and what sells,” says Shell, who’s already at work on a third album. “I’ve learned that being honest and authentic to who you truly are is the only way that people will genuinely be attracted to what you offer.” And we definitely like the sound of that. catshellmusic.com
Equine Excellence
After successful runs on Broadway and London’s West End, the Tony Award-winning War Horse finally comes to South Florida—albeit later than we’d like (May 7-19). The story of a young boy separated by war from his beloved thoroughbred is heartbreaking to watch, but the large-scale costumes and action figures make it impossible to look away. In the Haute Seat
On the occasion of Moroso’s 60th anniversary, designer Martino Gamper teamed up with the Italian furniture giant for a new seating collection made from existing Moroso pieces. Gamper sawed, cut and fused fabric, wood and steel to create sofas and chairs born out of old and new ideas, talents and time periods. The end result of Gamper’s daring experiment—modern design at its most introspective—became the focus of The Metamorfosi, an exhibition at the Hangar Bicocca in Milan. Miamians can see Gamper’s creations in person when they arrive at the Moroso shop at the 4141 Design showroom for a smaller exhibition later this spring. 4141 NE Second Ave., Miami, 305.572.2907, moroso.it
