The never-at-a-loss-for-words Michael Kors pipes in on his latest Miami offering.
It’s official: Michael Kors can do no wrong. From finance to entertainment, the designer has transcended fashion circles to become a household name. In addition to his collection boutique at Bal Harbour Shops, this month, he’s opening his fourth Miami-Dade lifestyle concept store at Village of Merrick Park (342 San Lorenzo Ave., Coral Gables, 866.709.5677, michaelkors.com). Fans can expect everything from studded cheetah-print high-tops to Hamilton totes in distressed python, as well as the full assortment of MICHAEL Michael Kors clothing and accessories, plus plenty of handbags.
So, why another lifestyle store?
It’s a great one-stop shop for what a woman needs in her daily life. You can buy everything from an ultraluxe bag to a flip-flop.
You’ve opened these types of stores at Dadeland Mall, The Falls and Aventura. Why did it take so long to open one closer to the city center?
As much as I like glamour, I’m very pragmatic. We had to wait until the perfect location became available, and we feel that [Merrick Park’s] atmosphere is ideal.
Do you like to spend time in Miami?
I love it! It’s hot, and it has a beach, which are my two favorite things about a location. I love that it has culture and diversity, but that you can cross the street and be in the water.
I always stay at The St. Regis in Bal Harbour and make stops at Vizcaya, Lincoln Road, Joe’s Stone Crab and Michael’s Genuine.
What is fall 2013’s must-have trend?
Animal prints! And we’ve got them in everything from sneakers to cross-body bags. They’re perfect for someone who’s not up for a head-to-toe look, but wants to add a little attitude to her look.
Considering your vast experience judging fashion, how do we fare in your opinion?
Miami women aren’t afraid to take risks, and they love glamour—you can always find someone in jewels and heels on the sand. I love the juxtaposition of a bikini and a statement necklace. I wouldn’t change a thing!
