Matters of Taste

While there’s no accounting for it, we certainly recognize good taste when we see it. In its purest form, it’s an effortless essence that permeates every aspect of people’s lives and personalities. Our three design-savvy Miamians understand that elusive quality rather well.
Carolina Argiz Orozco
After returning from a merchandising stint at Marc Jacobs in New York to head up the marketing department at Morrison, Brown, Argiz & Farra LLC (Miami’s largest CPA firm), socialite Carolina Argiz Orozco has made it her duty to raise Miami’s profile in the fashion world. Since her move, she has collaborated with fashion behemoths like Neiman Marcus and Vogue to host runway shows for designers that include Zac Posen, Lanvin, Roland Mouret and Zuhair Murad, and has expanded their Miami profiles (and sales) in the process. “It’s important to open up new avenues for fashion fans in this city and establish connections between designers and their customers,” she says. “Our shows and new outlets like The Webster demonstrate to the world that Miami can be cutting-edge.” Her personal style, an elegant take on femininity that knows just when to pull back, certainly proves that point through and through. “I’m turned on by three words: glamorous, risk-taker and effortless,” says Argiz Orozco, summarizing her approach to chic. “And I believe accessorizing is everything.”
One half of the sister-duo that owns the resort and swimwear boutique Nic del Mar, Jeannette Roger brings the spirit of St. Barts to the Magic City. Describing her style as “bohemian beach chic,” the Miami native opened the store (which carries top brands such as Tori Praver, Zimmerman and Mara Hoffman) as a tribute to our inherent aquatic state-of-mind. For Roger, style in the home and on the runway is all about balance. “I love blending eclectic and contemporary clothing with timeless pieces into one unique look,” she says. And if the call of the ocean happens to influence those choices, then so be it. Roger’s penchant for relatable yet upscale style has made Nic del Mar a runaway success, and her eclectic vision has secured her place in Miami as a fashion trailblazer. We can’t wait to see how she surprises us next.
Eric Lawrence Winnick
Eric Lawrence Winnick is a man attuned to his surroundings. A New York transplant, he’s come to embrace our city’s Art Deco and midcentury styles in both his innovative home designs and personal fashion choices. “I’m classic with a twist,” he says. “And I almost always wear blue.” At work, Winnick’s straightforward modern aesthetic and signature whimsical surprises on home design have garnered him an impressive list of projects from New York and The Hamptons to The Rockies and beyond. His approach to interiors is based around one main tenet: integrating his clients’ lifestyles into the look of their homes in a manner that’s sophisticated, organic and elegant yet comfortable. He’s a tailor of décor, if you will. “I don’t like it when designs are too ornate,” he explains. “I love the use of clean and simple lines with some splash of color.” True to his word... and his wardrobe.
