Table Matters

With communal tables popping up at some of the hottest restaurants around the city, there’s no better time to share and share alike.

The communal table at Oak Tavern is what dinner dreams are made of.

1. Copperbox
Hot food, cool company, hidden venue... that’s the Copperbox way. The 30-seat communal dining experience is a no-phones-allowed haven for those of us who consider food to be a work of art. So how did a converted warehouse become the newest, most unique way to make new friends? A seven-course meal from chef Gabriela Machado did the trick. 3328 N. Miami Ave., Miami, 305.392.0983

2. The Terrace at Edge Steak & Bar
Though it’s technically an extension of Edge’s top-notch bar, the terrace has a vibe all its own. With a communal dining table and fire pit-endowed lounge area, the space provides a stylishly serene ambience for those who want to mix and mingle with the Four Seasons’ finest. On the menu, the tartar sampler is a must! 1435 Brickell Ave., Miami, 305.381.3190

3. 15th & Vine Kitchen and Bar
With a menu that boasts small, flavorful portions designed to be shared, 15th & Vine is your high-rise destination for a night out with friends. Whether you’re bringing your own pals or making new ones, there are plenty of dishes to choose from that are sure to satisfy. Did we mention that it’s on the 15th floor of the Viceroy overlooking Brickell and Biscayne Bay? 485 Brickell Ave., Miami, 305.503.4400

4. Oak Tavern
At Chef David Bracha’s Design District restaurant, the communal table is the root of the restaurant’s convivial spirit. The wood-hewn masterpiece is the ideal birthplace for new friendships, where you and your new companions can share everything from bacalao croquettes to bison carpaccio. Choose an oaky wine from the restaurant’s plentiful selection—we suggest the rich and lingering 2010 Planeta Chardonnay—for the true Oak Tavern experience. 35 NE 40th St., Miami, 786.391.1818

5. Pubbelly and Barceloneta
The communal table is a well-known Pubbelly Restaurant Group staple. The original Pubbelly boasts a friendship-enabling collective table and rumor has it that L’echon Brasserie, the group’s newest concept, will feature one as well. South Miami tapas spot Barceloneta is the most wholly, dedicated to the concept of munching and mingling. Pubbelly, 1418 20th St., Miami Beach, 305.532.7555; Barceloneta, 5850 Sunset Drive, South Miami, 305.665.0020
