Strutting the sidewalk for our camera in a perfectly fitted Viktor & Rolf suit and Persol glasses he designed himself, Andrew Weir is the picture of haberdashery elegance. On the inside, however, he’s sweating bullets. “I hate having my picture taken,” says the 46-year-old casting director, photographer and founder of ACW Worldwide, a casting and consulting company based in Manhattan.
Weir, who grew up in North Dallas, was hot off the heels from directing the New York fall shows for Joseph Abboud, Thakoon and Zegna, and in high spirits to be back on home turf visiting family and scouting for new talent. “One of the things that I’m very proud of is the fact that I have solid roots in Dallas and can provide talent with access to major designers and creative directors in the industry,” he says. He’s helped make the careers of some of the top models in the business, including Dominican muse Arlenis Sosa for Lancôme and Victoria’s Secret, and smoking-hot Jil Sander model Steve Morgan, whom he says he discovered at a Dallas head shop.
When not clocking 70,000 air miles a year and booking talent, Weir donates his resources and expertise to Jeffrey Fashion Cares, a charity that funds AIDS research. Weir hopes to help raise $1 million for this year’s gala, which will be held April 1 in NYC.
