Laugh Track
by Rachel Watkins | Modern Luxury Dallas magazine | February 6, 2012Following in the rather uninhibited and uncensored tradition of John Leguizamo’s Mambo Mouth, Spic-O-Rama, Freak and Sexholix… a Love Story, Ghetto Klown is the next chapter in the popular personal and professional story of this film, television and stage actor. His fifth one-man play, and his third on Broadway, is packed with the performer’s trademark comedic style, and the piece veritably explodes with energy.
Leguizamo sets the stage on fire with his vivid accounts of the colorful characters who have populated his life, as he takes audiences from his adolescent memories in Queens to the early days of his acting career during the outrageous avant-garde theater scene of the ’80s. And he doesn’t stop there, instead moving onward in his career trajectory to the sets of major motion pictures and his roles opposite some of Hollywood's biggest stars.
As Leguizamo puts it, “Ghetto Klown is all the things I say to my therapist and my manager, but would NEVER want the general public to know. It’s cheaper than a lawsuit, and I get to take a bow at the end. It’s like WikiLeaks but with no international manhunt. Yet.” Get set for one bumpy and relentlessly side-splitting ride. Feb. 16-18. The Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St., 800.745.3000, ticketmaster.com
