Leap to It!
by Rachel Watkins | Modern Luxury Dallas magazine | February 17, 2012Get set for a staring match at Stay ZaZa Art House & Social Gallery’s Blink show, in collaboration with Turner Carroll Gallery and Art Advisors, through March 31. The eyes certainly have it, what with Alan Rath’s sculptural video, "Neo-Watcher IV," featuring baby blues that awaken upon motion detection, the shifting images of butterflies and individual letters of "Invictus" by Ann Weiner, and many more artistic moments. You may just get the feeling you’re being watched! hotelzazadallas.com
Geometry class is in session at ceramicist Lucrecia Waggoner’s Geo-Metría show Feb. 25-March 24 at Samuel Lynne Galleries, where mathematic discipline, coupled with the elements of global cultures, the scenic landscapes of Texas and Mexico, and the celestial atmosphere of the night sky, inspire her sculptural pieces. samuellynne.com
Nasher Sculpture Center goes Greek with Elliott Hundley: The Bacchae, through April 22, which includes 11 works investigating Euripides’ classic Greek tragedy and thereby exploring notions of pleasure, grief and guilt. Speaking of theatrical, don’t miss a set of performances that wrap up right before leap day: Vampires may be all the rage now (hello, The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries). But, Dracula, the haunting Texas Ballet Theater production Feb. 24-26 at Bass Performance Hall, set to the evocative music of Franz Liszt, revisits an earlier Count’s castle—before Edward Cullen, that is. texasballettheater.org
The Dallas Opera’s Tristan & Isolde, through Feb. 25 at the Winspear Opera House, sizzles with a salty love triangle based on ancient Celtic legend (dallasopera.org). And Dallas Summer Musicals’ Bring It On: The Musical, through Feb. 26 at The Music Hall at Fair Park, is a high-flying, pom-pom fabulous production that puts a comedic spin on the world of competitive cheerleading—and will have you reliving those silly high school rivalries in no time (dallassummermusicals.org). Game on!
