Ascension gets the nod from Design District denizens.

Brave brew world!

Ascend & Deliver

So popular that you may have to valet park just for a grab-and-go cuppa joe, Ascension has perked up the Design District with its seriously civilized brews.

Great for a meeting, casual lunch, midafternoon pick-me-up or makeshift office (with Wi-Fi access by password), make time to watch Ascension's ( baristas craft single-origin coffees hailing from Costa Rica to Ethiopia. Prepared in one of four methods, they even stop mid prep to give the customer a sniff. The new spot by owner Russell Hayward (Tom Tom Noodle House, Lazare) has been discovered by the coffee shop-starved neighborhood—and then some. As general manager Ian Montgomery puts it: “It’s a madhouse all day long; there’s a total of 20 minutes of not-craziness a day.” At night, Ascension shifts focus to wine, with a wide-ranging list from California, Oregon, France, Germany, Spain, Chile and Argentina. Parking hassles aside (Montgomery promises he’s working on it), Ascension is definitely on the way up.
