Dallas was joyously rocked to learn that five Booker T. seniors have been accepted into Julliard’s 2014 freshman class, a remarkable achievement even for a school that has produced Grammy Award winners Erykah Badu, Edie Brickell and Norah Jones. Photographer Carter Rose, who often shoots for the AT&T Performing Arts Center across from the school, captured this group of music, dance and theater students on the school’s steps. Not surprisingly, they were eager to perform for Rose’s camera. “Booker T. kids are always up to something—dancing, playing instruments, singing or acting out a part from a play. It cracks me up to see them bebopping around the Arts District,” he says. The school’s May 9 fundraiser, Flyinghorse 2014, is sponsored by Modern Luxury Dallas and features performances by students and a celeb or two—past performers have included Branford Marsalis and The Polyphonic Spree.
