Adam Machnicki relocated to Allen from his homeland of Poland almost two years ago when his software company transferred him.
Sea Life Grapevine Aquarium, Grapevine
Machnicki, who was showing his visiting Polish mother-in-law around the area, shot this compelling image of a couple entranced by a shark swimming overhead at the Sea Life Grapevine Aquarium. “I’m always trying to find moments that are magical to capture. In a matter of seconds, I saw this couple looking at a shark in the tank, and I snapped the shot. They never even noticed,” he says. Machnicki used an Olympus OM-D E-M5 with an Olympus digital 17 mm lens to record the image, converting color to black-and-white, and bringing the couple and the shark into sharp focus by adjusting the contrast. “There were many more details in the center of the photo, but I didn’t want any unnecessary distractions, so I made that area dark,” he explains. Not bad for an amateur photographer who’s only been shooting for three years.
