Doughnuts aren’t just for breakfast anymore. Chic hostesses across the city are opting for these easily accessible treats as their dinner party dessert. Here are our local faves that will leave houseguests swooning for more.
1. Glazed Donut Works
Hand-crafted in Deep Ellum under the direction of owner Darren Cameron, this little shop makes some daring and delicious creations: crème brulee, blueberry mascarpone and even Sriracha! Blind Limoncello doughnuts and Pineapple Rum Fritters all pair well with after-dinner drinks. 2644 Elm St., 214.741.2275
2. Hypnotic Donuts
This little East Dallas joint near White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum started the doughnut revolution in Dallas. Known for its best-seller, the Evil Elvis—a doughnut topped with peanut butter, bacon, banana and honey—the shop is the brainchild of “King Donut” James St. Peter. 9007 Garland Road, 214. 668.6999
3. Sun Donuts
Absolutely old school and the way doughnuts should be. Get ‘em hot, dripping with sugary glaze. Apple fritters are a go-to grab with fans, as well as quintessential selections including chocolate frosted and rainbow sprinkles for the purist. Big plus: their huge assortment of savory kolaches. 9219 Midway Road, 214.358.1229
4. Top Pot Doughnuts
You’ve seen Top Pot on the Travel Channel and Food Network, but this Seattle-based spot is ready to introduce Dallas to its signature Old Fashioned, a moist circle of yumminess with a satisfying outside crunch. Overwhelmed by the selection? Get a mixer of a dozen at their spot at Hillcrest and Northwest Highway and we promise no one will be disappointed.
5. Yummy Donuts
With an oh-so-cute pink and white awning, this Park Cities mainstay is known for the classic glazed as well as gourmet doughnuts with unusual toppings such as Fruity Pebbles, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and bacon. We’re partial to the kid-friendly Hello Kitty doughnuts and always appreciate owner Rena Kim’s doughnut hole comps. 4355 Lovers Lane, 214.520.7680
