Michael O’Brien’s been dressing celebs and pros (think Justin Timberlake and Drew Brees) in custom togs for years. Now, he’s expanding his L.A.-based Elevée (eleveefashion.com) to O.C.

Your suits are gorgeous. What else do you do? We have a European influence [O’Brien travels to Italy three times a year to source the best fabrics], but we design wardrobes for golf, resort and business, as well as casual pieces.

Your most in-demand pieces? Shirts and suits—the demand became so high, we now offer a ready-to-wear line. Golf slacks and polos are also on that list.

Give us your take on men’s fashion. There’s not just one look that’s good for everyone. Knowing your clients—that’s the best way to design the right pieces for their lifestyle, from the shape and fabric, to the color and cut. And you have to be ahead of the curve. When the silhouettes get slimmer, you have to know ahead of time.

Personal preferences? A modern and European fitted style, but the situation dictates the look. You’ll mostly find me in fitted suits, or jeans and a button-up for more casual days.

Five staples every man should have? A well-fitting pair of jeans; a patterned sports coat that’s chic and can be worn casually or dressed up; an unconstructed blazer, great over a T-shirt or button-up; a cashmere sweater; a sturdy linen pant that’s made like a slack, really hip for day or night.
