Tantalize your taste buds and sample the fresh, seasonal bites that these new restaurants—and a couple of our old faves—are dishing out now.
1. Jim Dandy
Phenom restaurateur David Wilhelm brings us his newest concept, Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern—a locals’ joint packed with from-scratch regional comfort food, craft cocktails and a lively, fun atmosphere. 25001 Dana Point Harbor Drive, Dana Point, 949.388.8900, j-fat.com
2. On a Lark
Newbie restaurant Lark Creek Newport Beach lands on our shore by way of San Fran’s Lark Creek Restaurant Group. Chef and partner John Ledbetter’s dishing out wild king salmon at dinner, baby kale and quinoa salad at lunch, and a pork tamale at brunch. And the wine and drink lists are just as appealing as the food. Fashion Island, 957 Newport Center Drive, Newport Beach, 949.640.6700, larkcreeknb.com
3. Shor Thing!
With a name that hearkens the coast, we can only expect the freshest fish dishes around from Shor American Seafood Grill. And it delivers with catches like the housemade lobster ravioli with truffle-brandy cream, shuckables (Pacific oysters and chilled shrimp) and other seafood items, including the pan-seared scallops. Leave it to The Winery Restaurant to create an autumn menu that reminds us why we should stop waxing poetic about summer and jump feetfirst into fall. The dishes pop with flavor and color, like the Hawaiian sea bass with butternut squash and ginger coulis and the lump crab and citrus-cured salmon Napoleon. RA Sushi Bar Restaurant blends hot music, rockin’ decor and fresh drinks and fish, like its new Tropical Pairing—jalapeño pineapple shrimp and a Coco Kanpai cocktail, offered through Sept. 30. 155 Fifth St., Huntington Beach, 714.536.6390, The District at Tustin, 2401 Park Ave., Tustin, 714.566.1700, rasushi.com
