Britain’s iconic SUV receives a stunning revamp for 2013.
Whether you’re heading into the great outdoors or just moving up the luxury car hierarchy, Land Rover’s completely redesigned 2013 Range Rover handles the task with aplomb. The fourth generation of Land Rover’s flagship SUV is the ultimate expression of refinement and capability. Now, with a completely new look, lightweight aluminum body and a sophisticated powertrain, the Range Rover continues its dominance in a segment it launched 40 years ago.
Quintessentially British, the Range Rover’s new design pays tribute to its signature Land Rover DNA with a modern look guaranteed to turn heads. Performancewise, for 2013 Land Rover put the Range on a serious diet, shedding some 926 pounds with its new lightweight aluminum body, the first such structure to be used on any SUV. This weight loss, coupled with a sophisticated eight-speed automatic transmission, improves fuel economy and reduces emissions while also transforming the Range’s handling and performance. With the standard 375 horsepower V8 engine, 0 to 60 mph drops by nearly a second to 6.5 seconds, while fuel economy increases to 20 mpg on the highway, which is 2 mpg better than the 2012 model. To the eye, the Range hasn’t lost a thing by dropping the serious weight, while it has gained a lot.
