Drink Here Now: Driftwood

A new ocean-themed bar with cocktails and on-tap beer washes up in SoMa.
Where: Driftwood, 1219 Folsom St. (at 8th St.).
What: From two surf buddies who also happen to be restaurant and bar industry vets, this turquoise-painted cocktail den washed up in SoMa last month, complete with a marine-grade bronze bar top, cozy leather couches, a fireplace, upright piano and "Sammy the Seal."
Crowd: A friendly mixed bag of surfer bros and gays fills the bar’s handmade cowhide-covered stools on any given night. Vinyl fans bring their own to spin on the record player.
Prices: At $9 a pop and $0 of pretension, the well-made cocktails here are a great deal.
Order this: On warmer nights, the Native Tongue’s mix of gin, cucumbers, and sparkling wine has a cooling effect. The bar now has Scrimshaw Pils, Marin Brewing Co.'s Heffe Weiss, Green Flash Brewing Hop Head Red, and three others on draft. Look for a toast bar (as in bread with seasonal spreads) and an enlarged bottled beer selection to roll out in September.
