Originally formed in Dallas, TX, but now calling the Bay Area home, the Giggle Party has a sound akin to YACHT but with a group mentality closer to that of Grouplove. They call their sound an “absurdist breed of pop,” which really just means they’re having fun with it…and that it is a little out there.
Brick and Mortar 8pm, Free.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Melding psychadelia with pop is no easy task, but these Kiwis do it justice. Think Tame Impala-style guitar and drum with dreamy vocals and an underlying surf pop vibe. The band is a favorite of everyone’s, from Big Boi to Toro Y Moi, and definitely worth checking out.
Great American Music Hall, 7pm, $17.
The Stone Foxes
The local rockers are back with a their newly released Small Fires, out today. Expect less hardcore head-banging of the Psycho days, and more mellow foot-tapping melodies and scratchy vocals that are best paired with a pint of beer in hand.
The New Parish, 8pm, FREE.
This Oregon native layers husky, smoky vocals on top of pop-infused hip hop beats with a tinge of blues. A while you may not have heard of her, she’s a big deal. She’s already done collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Freddie Gibbs. Makes for a great last-minute Valentine’s Day date.
Great American Music Hall, 7pm, $16.
Dirty Dozen Brass Band,
They may be past their prime, but the Dirty Dozen can still get you moving with their signature mix of R&B and New Orleans style brass. Start prepping for Mardi Gras early.
The Independent, 9pm $20.
