Block parties, beer, and corned beef. What more could you want?
Forget Saturday’s shenanigans. You don’t remember Saturday? Oh ok. No worries. The true Saint Patrick’s Day happens today.
Whether you’re a real Irishman, a real drinker, or some heroic combination of the two—you should know that today separates the casual revelers from the tried and true party-goers. Here are some of the top events to get your green on today.
O'Reilly's in North Beach is having an afternoon block party of live music that will go late into the night. $10 admission gets you eight different bands, including the Irish Pipers Band, the Gas Men, and the U2 tribute band Zoo Station.
Harrington's Bar & Grill in the Financial District has been hosting one of the longest-running St. Patty's Day parties in the city (In it's 80th year). For $5 you can enjoy traditional Irish bagpipes, food, and music by Ben Hunter & Celtic Scandal.
Crossroads presents a less boozy take on Irish pride, that is: their penchant for wordsmithing, as they invite Sonoma County Poet Laureate Katherine Hastings to read from her newly released book of poetry, "Nighthawks." It's been described as "fierce Buddhism," an unflinching and brilliantly flourished look at what it means to be human. Get some free inspiration at Bookshop West Portal at 7 pm tonight.
SoMa StrEat Food Park hosts its final day of Irish food truck specials, green beer, and live music. Running from 5-10 pm, a Facebook RSVP gets you in free to enjoy a multitude of Irish-themed cuisine including Eiretrea's bangers and mash, shepard's pie, and corned beef sliders.
Royal Exchange will host a block party between California and Front Streets, featuring a free show by Wonderbread 5.
Over 3,000 people attended the official St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl in 2013. This year, they're looking to break that record. Registration for the Marina crawl begins at Extreme Pizza between 5-10 pm. Go there to find out the bar locations and start your shamrock shenanigans. Buy your tickets online for $10 and get after those $2 drafts, $3 well drinks, and $4 whiskey shots.
The Irish Bank in the Financial District will have its own alleyway block party going from noon to midnight. $10 for a rocking array of music from The Shams, Bog Savages, and DJ Marcus.
