A four-day countdown of punch-drunk comedy.
Rising rents, crowded MUNI, the Warriors dropping game seven: It's enough to make a San Franciscan crazy. So we've compiled a four-day guide to stand-up comedy in San Francisco. Go and laugh your troubles away.
WEDNESDAY: 8:15 pm with the Purple Onion All-Stars
140 Columbus Avenue
The Purple Onion, which relocated to Kells after losing its location around the corner, hosts their farm-team Cellar Dwellers—mid-level professional comedians with colorful Irish accents—whose inexperience is sometimes more hilarious than their actual material. If the jokes are less than 'hah' worthy, at least you’ll have your own material to heckle like the Irish. Slainte!
THURSDAY: 7PM with the Harold Improv @ EndGames
446 Valencia Street
Improv actors take suggestions from the audience before embarking on a journey of free-falling associations. Think Whose Line Is It Anyways? but with fewer rules. Tickets cost just $5 at the door.
FRIDAY: 8pm and 10:15pm @ Cobb’s Comedy Club Presents The Sklar Brothers
915 Columbus Avenue
With appearances on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and “Entourage,” the identical Sklar twins are center stage in the comedy world. The vaudevillian duo are known to employ a clever framing device whereby they treat their standup special as if it were an NFL playoff game, impersonating commentary from NFL Network anchors.
SATURDAY: 7:30 & 9:30pm Punch Line Hosts Darryl Lenox
444 Battery Street
Darryl Lenox is the man to see—literally. His Blind Ambition tour headlines this weekend’s Punch Line stand-up. The blind comedian brags: "I can make you laugh at stuff you had no idea you thought was funny."
