Three travel lit events this week to cure your case of the Mondays.
Monday, 6 p.m.
What: Weekday Wanderlust
Best for: Travel lit nerds and aspiring writers
Where: Hotel Rex
This new-ish travel reading series brings three well-decorated local authors to the Rex Hotel each month. Kick back with a glass of cab and listen to inspiring tales from around the globe. The readers this month: Bonnie Tsui, Gayle Keck, and Tamim Ansary. The event kicks off with cocktails and mingling at 6 p.m., then readings begin at 7 p.m. in the aptly travel-themed back room.
Wednesday, 6:30 p.m.
Best for: Globetrotting families
Where: Hotel Diva
Travel doesn’t have to stop when you start a family, it just changes. Hear National Geographic Travel editor, Kieth Bellows, read from his new book, 100 Places That Can Change Your Child’s Life. More first-person experiences from Bellows and others, like writer Andre McCarthy who toured Marrakech with his seven-year-old son, illuminate places and cultures to inspire travel ideas for youngsters.
Thursday, 7 p.m.
Best for: Locavore travellers
Where: Books Inc., on Chestnut
Start your summer travel bucketlist early this year with ideas from San Francisco guidebook writer Michele Bigley. In her new book, Backroads & Byways of Northern California: Drives, Day Trips & Weekend Excursions, Bigley outlines local off the radar weekend getaway itineraries. Get some inspiration from her and tips from others attending at this reading presented by the SF Travel Book Club, in the Marina.
