Portuguese singer Ana Moura to perform in Berkeley tomorrow night

World-renowned Portuguese vocalist Ana Moura will perform at Berkeley’s Zellerbach Hall tomorrow night. Moura’s music, called fado, is deep and passionate (think Portuguese folk meets blues). She describes it as “poetry about feelings…all kinds of feelings.” She has worked with artists including Mick Jagger and Prince, both of whom she says have been very important to inspiring her music, and legends like Marvin Gaye and Billie Holiday have also influenced the more soulful side of her work. No stranger to the Bay Area, Moura is happy to return. “The last time I played here the audience was really great,” Moura says. “I expect them to be the same. The Bay Area is really inspiring for artists.” Her performance will be a medley of songs from all her albums and will bring together three new fado musicians: Angelo Freire and Pedro Soares on guitar and Yuri Daniel on bass.
