A furious comeback and big defensive second half helps the 49ers punch a ticket to the Super Bowl.
The 49ers have done it. They got over last year's hump and advanced to the Promised Land with a thrilling 28-24 victory in Atlanta yesterday. After falling behind 17-0 in the first half, the Niners began a rally that saw them pull to within 24-14 at halftime, before scoring the only points in the second half to hang on for a win.
But, their business isn't finished yet. The 49ers still have a date (Feb. 3rd in New Orleans, LA to be exact) with Ray Lewis, Anquan Boldin and Ray Rice in Super Bowl XLVII. The 49ers opened as five-point favorites for that Super Bowl matchup, playfully being dubbed the "Harbowl" because it pits Niners coach Jim Harbaugh against his older brother, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
Once 49er fans finished dancing in the street after the big win against the Falcons, Twitter began to explode with triumphant messages. Here are the best tweets we found following the big win:
IndyCar driver Graham Rahal gets our sibling narrative rolling with a very intelligent prediction:
More sports personalities pointed out multiple reasons to look forward to the Super Bowl:
@AaronBoone_ESPN: Congrats Ravens and 49ers! Will be pretty cool seeing Harbaugh bros square off & Ray Lewis come out of Superbowl tunnel one last time.
One fan points out a potentially awkward family situation:
And one has high hopes for the hometown team in the Super Bowl:
@stevebraband: Early prediction - 49ers: 112 Ravens: 3
Even major celebrities are getting excited about this Harbowl matchup (yes, that's the real J.T.):
@jtimberlake: This is gonna be a GREAT Super Bowl! 49ers/Ravens?? Can't wait! i'm booking my flight to New Orleans right now!
Another fan points out how the hardest-working member of the team deserves some love:
@Bruin49: I don't think I've ever been so happy for a person as I am for Frank Gore right now.
And someone thinks the butt of all recent sports jokes had a role in Vernon Davis' successful performance:
@go_big_blue35: Why is Manti Teo's girlfriend covering Vernon Davis??
Perhaps most flattering of all, a rival QB extended his well wishes to the 49ers for Super Bowl Sunday:
