Union Square power-suiter Wilkes Bashford gets a seven-story facelift.
Union Square power-suiter Wilkes Bashford, a San Francisco fixture since the ‘60s, will unveil a seven-story facelift of its iconic store on November 15. The yearlong Gensler-designed renovation introduces a number of aesthetic tweaks—new fixtures, limestone and mosaic detailing, display cases trimmed with reclaimed Presidio eucalyptus—as well as big-ticket upgrades like an ornate marble and wrought-iron grand staircase and a new high-speed elevator.
The townhouse-inspired transformation corresponds with the debut of several splurgy Italian in-store boutiques, including Loro Piana, Kiton, Brioni, and Ermenegildo Zegna. But the real pièce de résistance is the made-to-measure suiting lounge, a swanky penthouse outfitted with leather club chairs, a fireplace, and a full bar.
