James Syhabout, Michael Mina, and other guest chefs will be dropping by the mini-chain's Kearny Street location.
As a lead-in to this year’s Eat Drink SF—the epic festival bringing more than 100 chefs and restaurateurs to Fort Mason Center this weekend—Super Duper Burger has invited five local chefs to dress up the mini-chain’s standby bun and patty. The logic is impeccable: After all, how else do you you kick off a four-day gluttony fest than with a weeklong burger diet?
The limited-edition burgers are available at Super Duper's Kearny Street location in the Financial District through Friday, August 21. First out of the gate on Monday was the Summer Tuscan Burger, crafted by Ne Timeas Restaurant Group’s Thomas McNaughton (of Aaxte, Central Kitchen, Flour + Water, and Cafe Du Nord). Featuring pancetta wheel, arugula, a slice of heirloom tomato, Calabrian chili oil, and a pickle, it was a burger that sounded like it had a very good artisanal pizza for lunch.
Each hamburger is a single-patty affair, and it will set you back $8 (a portion of the proceeds will go to a charity of the chef’s choice). Plus, each day’s guest chef will drop by the Kearny Street restaurant between 2 and 3 p.m. During that hour, all specialty burger proceeds will go to charity, making it the optimal window for guilt-free (at least karmically speaking) burger consumption.
Here’s the rest of the week's lineup:
David Bazirgan, Dirty Habit
Durty Durty Burger
The add-ons: Early Girl tomatoes, bacon, fried shallots, cheddar cheese, butter lettuce, and pasilla aioli.
James Syhabout, Hawker Fare
The add-ons: Caper mayonnaise, alfalfa sprouts, fried shallots, tomato, red onion, jack cheese, and sea salt.
Brandon Jew, Mister Jiu’s (Forthcoming)
Do It for the Kids
The add-ons: Black and white sesame, caramelized shiitake mushrooms, scallion fondue, and watercress.
Michael Mina, Mina Group
Gold Rush Burger
The add-ons: secret sauce and smoked gouda.
Correction: This story has been updated to reflect the fact that the specialty burgers are single patties, not double. We regret the error.
