Ten Things You Can Buy for the Same Price as the VIP Opening of the Cat Cafe

$500 to party with tea and cats? Isn't there something better you can do with that cash?

Despite our best efforts, the KitTea cat cafe is moving forward. They've just announced that they are raising funds via crowdtilt with the aim of opening this summer. We'll let them explain their vision:

"KitTea will be a relaxing tea house where you can sip on exotic blends, sustainably sourced from around the world. Lounge alongside some furry felines: they form the foundation of a space full of harmony, purity, respect, and tranquility."

Sounds pretty nice, right? Except one thing: The price tag. Though there are lower entry points, if you want you can drop $500 bucks (and four of you already have) to get VIP tickets to their Opening Gala, plus a tea for two voucher to come back during the soft opening.

Look, we can't tell you how to spend your money, but it strikes us that there might be more cost-effective ways to scratch that cat and caffeine itch. With $500, you could also buy:

Four kittens from the San Francisco SPCA.

42 pounds of Primal Feline Venison Raw Formula cat food from Pet Food Express.

28 vintage Garfield plush toys from 1981.

Two buckwheat-hulled, lavender-filled hemp birdy pillows from Kittypod.

Cover charge for 100 people to the burlesque night at Cat Club on Saturday.

700 pounds of Tidy Cats litter.

Afternoon tea for 12 people at the Fairmont Hotel, complete with Dungeness crab and mango salad, seasonal fresh fruit tartlets, and Willow Stream spa blend tea from Zimbabwe.

18 ounces of Ming Qian Dragonwell Panan, Supreme 2013 from Chinatown's Red Blossom Tea Company

14,285 individual bags of Lipton black tea.

A 3.7% down payment on the $13,400 price on a five month old female tiger cub direct from India.
