A well-earned nine-game suspension for Aldon Smith.
Aldon Smith has had a string of troubles with law enforcement. The most recent of them came in April, when he was arrested at the Los Angeles airport for reportedly claiming he was carrying a bomb. He's faced two DUI arrests since 2012 and in 2013 was charged with possession of an illegal assault weapon after suffering stab wounds during a party at his house.
So it comes as no surprise that Smith drew a nine-game suspension today from the NFL. After meeting with Commissioner Rodger Goodell earlier in the month, the league's chief handed down a long sentence for violations of football's personal conduct and substance abuse policies. Smith had sat out five games last season while in rehab.
Though Smith had three days to file an appeal, an NFL spokesperson said this afternoon that "the appeal process is concluded." The suspension will begin on Saturday. No word yet on which player will take over the mantle of the worst behaving member of the Niners.
