The All-Male California Golf Club Is Allegedly Pretty Gross

The course in South San Francisco is the target of a sexual discrimination lawsuit.
Chatter about creepy members-only associations in town focuses either on The Battery, home of tech's most primped elite, or the Bohemian Grove, where Dick Cheney reportedly stages the pagan hyper-tech rituals that keep the blood flowing through his body without a heart. But you may have to focus your conspiracy theories on another shadowy den of inequity—the California Golf Club in South San Francisco.
That's according to Caitlin Donohoe at 48 Hills. She wrote today about a lawsuit that a former employee has filed against the club—and it's filled with juicy (if only alleged) details. Jeri Regnart worked at the club for 12 years. Now she's suing on seven counts of sexual discrimination, harassment, and battery. To be fair, Regnart has a financial stake in portraying the club to be less than sterling on gender issues. But the allegations, if shown to be true, are troubling.
Male golfers harass women players on the links whom they think are playing too slowly. The problem got so bad that some of the women organized a boycott—with no successes to show for it.
The Club changed its policies on transactions after other courses were forced by courts to open themselves to women because they were ruled businesses.
Female guests are restricted to certain tee times—and discouraged from showing up at all on Saturdays.
The all-male board banned female servers from the club's grill area.
The club's general manager allegedly told Regnart that it was "only a matter of time" before the club eliminated all of its female employees.
Starting in 2012, the club began to set up a boxing ring, complete with scantly-clad women at events who were overheard saying, "We make our money with our mouths."
