Haunted Haight Walking Tour

What: An ambulatory tour through some of the Haight's rumored haunted locations.
Where: Starts at Coffee to the People (1206 Masonic)
When: Saturdays at 7PM
Cost: $20
Why: Because it's a booze-free means of celebrating the holiday, and an excellent way to scare/impress your friends with future knowledge.

Thriller Halloween Ball

What: A special Halloween show by the fourteen-piece (!!) Michael Jackson cover band Foreverland.
Where: Bimbo's (1025 Columbus)
When: Friday, Oct. 25, 8PM
Cost: $22
Why: Becasue "Thriller" is and always will be the ultimate Halloween jam.

San Francisco Zombie Prom

What: A party with live music, DJs, a $200 costume contest, and more.
Where: The Verdi Club (2424 Mariposa)
When: Friday, Oct. 25, 8PM
Cost: $17-$20
Why: Because what's spookier than the thought of having to relive your prom?

Sick Sad Halloween

What: Oakland's favorite Nineties-jam loving DJ collective makes literal good on its party-monster rep with sets from residents Neto, Spaceghost, Bobby Peruu, guMMyBeAR, and So What, plus performances by Lofty305 and Karman. 
Where: Downtown Oakland, specific address TBA. 
When: Oct. 25, 10PM-3AM
Cost: $15, or $10 with a costume
Why: Because no matter how long it's been since you heard Ginuwine's "Pony," it's been too long. 

American Tripps Halloween/Dia de los Muertos Party

What: Berlin-style ping pong, a New Order cover band, and day-after-Halloween festivities.
Where: Rickshaw Stop (155 Fell)
When: Friday, Nov. 1, 8PM-1AM
Cost: $10 before 9PM, $12 after
Why: Because a Thursday Halloween = excellent justification for continuing to party through the weekend.

SF Festival of Altars

What: A traditional celebration of the Mexican Holiday Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.
Where: Procession starts at 22nd and Bryant and continues through the Mission.
When: Saturday, Nov, 2, 7PM
Cost: free!
Why: Because it's a Mission tradition, not to mention a cool, meaningful thing.

Eerie SF Haunted House and Carnival

What: A pool party. Just kidding, it's uh, a haunted house and carnival, presented by Maxine Holloway and Val Killmore, plus their "favorite local strippers, artists and zombies." The haunted house itself is a not-so-thinly-veiled reference to the abject horrors wrought by the tech boom, presented as a tour through ""
Where: Public Works, 161 Erie St.
When: Wednesday, Oct. 30, 7PM-1AM
Cost: $5-$15
Why: Strippers!

Creatures of the Nightlife

What: A Halloweeny twist on the Academy of Sciences' regular adults-only Nightlife program.
Where: California Academy of Sciences, Golden Gate Park
When: Thursday, Oct. 31, 6PM-10PM
Cost: $10-$12
Why: Because where else can you hear a UC Berkeley professor talk about the boiengineering principles behind Frankenstein and see a Peaches Christ drag show in the same place on the same night?
