What We're Obsessed With Right Now

The cocktails, whales, and singers that San Francisco staffers are geeking out about this week.

 

Elise Craig, Research Editor: Meeting friends for drinks is great, but gets boring after a while, so this week. I'm heading to Autodesk's Design Night, a once-a-month event where they focus on a particular area of design. This week: fashion, with a talk by the director of the Fashionable Technology Lab at Parsons and a fashion show—plus snacks and a bar. Learning with a side of booze? I'll take it.

Ellen Cushing, Senior Editor: Beyoncé.

Scott Lucas, Web Editor: I just took a knife skills cooking class at 18 Reasons and I've been practicing my fine brunoise on carrots at my desk all morning. Who wants tiny carrot pieces?

Adam Brinklow, Editorial Fellow: Conservapedia's page on "San Francisco Values" includes the subhead "Hotbed for Homosexuality." Which yes—sounds just about the way we like it.

Sofia Perez, Editorial Intern: I tried Lolo for the first time last weekend and now I understand what the rave is about. These cocktails are prepared by people who know what they are doing. The Mezcal Mule was a twist on the Moscow, served with a crescent-shaped bowl of ice inside the cup and filled with dried cranberries. Next time I'll try the tapas.

Carly Salzberg, Editorial Intern: I have been dying to see the humpback whales at Monterey Bay. A picture of a whale breaching the water caught my eye in the Chronicle along with this description: "Moss Landing, Monterey County—You could smell whale breath in the air. It was like a mix of fermented broccoli and rotten anchovies." Intriguing.
