Learn the Hustle and Have a Dance Party
What: Professional dance instructors will lead demonstrations of "The Hustle" before turning Jack London Square into a giant dance party
Where: Jack London Square, Oakland
When: Friday August 22, 8:30pm
Why: Sure you could go to a club to dance with random strangers, but why not do it under the stars?
Strut Your Mutt
What: A full day of pet-friendly events including contests, entertainment, and food.
Where: Great Lawn on Avenue of the Palms, Treasure Island
When: Saturday August 23, 9am - 2pm
Cost: Donation Requested
Why: Because it's a fundraiser for Best Friends Animal Society, a non-profit organization working to ensure all pets have homes.
Palo Alto Festival of the Arts
What: This sidewalk party will feature the work of over 300 artists in a variety of mediums and includes live music as well as a kid's studio for the littlest artists.
Where: University Avenue, Palo Alto
When: Saturday August 23, 10am
Why: Not only a chance to gaze and mingle with artists, artwork of all genres and price ranges will be available for purchase.
Film Night in the Park
What: The San Francisco Neighborhood Theater Foundation presents Bullitt, projected on a large screen over looking the park's expansive lawns.
Where: Dolores Park, San Francisco
When: Saturday, August 23, sundown.
Why: Are you kidding? The greatest movie car chase of all time, filmed on our very streets? With Steve McQueen?
Final Concert of the Stern Grove Summer Season
What: The Zombies, along with Vetiver, play the final concert of the Stern Grove Festival's 77th Season
Where: Stern Grove Park at 19th and Sloat, San Francisco
When: Sunday, August 24, 2pm (though if you want a seat, we suggest getting there at least an hour early)
Why: If you haven't been to the Stern Grove Festival yet, discover this gem now before you have to wait a whole year for the next season.
Blues, Brews, & BBQ
What: The 5th annual festival in downtown Napa will feature three stages of live music, 30 microbreweries, and all the finger-licking BBQ you can eat.
Where: First and Main Streets, downtown Napa
When: Saturday August 24, 1pm – 6pm
Cost: Free admission and parking
Why: Now you can enjoy beautiful Napa without taking a single sip of wine (but many sips of beer).
Shakespeare in the Park presents "The Taming of the Shrew"
What: A professional rendition of the comedy set in Italy, this one can be enjoyed with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. Load up the picnic basket!
Where: Main Post Parade Ground on the Presidio, San Francisco
When: August 30 - September 1, 2pm
Why: Because why not enjoy the world as a stage?
What: Billed as “Sonoma County’s Gay Grape Stomp,” the evening will feature live music, a taco truck, and a costume contest.
Where: Viszlay Vineyards, Healdsburg
When: Saturday August 30, 5pm – 8pm
Cost: $20 in advance or $35 at the door
Why: The grape stomping competition offers a grand prize to the best juice squeezer, as well as a chance to enter the world grape stomping championship, taking place this year at the Sonoma Count Harvest Fair (October 3-5)
