Calistoga’s Winter in the Wineries passport let’s you sample vino at 14 local wineries, including T-Vine Cellars’ new modern tasting room on Highway 29 with a back patio overlooking the vineyards. Or opt for Castello di Amoros, a 12th century-esque Tuscan estate with a moat, pouring Italian-style blends. $75, valid through February 9th.

Work off those holiday calories by cycling through town. Calistoga Bikeshop offers self-guided or guided tours. The ambitious can peddle seven miles north of town on Highway 29 to Robert Louis Stevenson State Park. Then, hike the five-mile trail to the top of Mt. St. Helena, which is said to have the best views in the clear winter skies, sometimes stretching as for as Mt. Shasta.

Stay
Calistoga Ranch has new offerings for a winter hideaway weekend. In a hidden private canyon on Napa Valley’s northern end, 157 acres of rugged wild mountains with nearly endless trails are yours to traverse. The free-standing exposed-wood guest lodges with heat lamps and outdoor fireplaces are fit for entire families and feel more like an upscale camp than a hoity toity hotel. The Bathhouse Spa has a new creek-side pavilion for relaxing before a seasonally-inspired treatment with local ingredients like honey and grape seeds. Other new perks include a dozen hens in a reclaimed wood chicken coop, from whom you can collect eggs for a made-to-order fresh omelet. And if you happen to be there on a rare 70 degree winter day, visit the new family-friendly infinity pool overlooking the vineyard. On the food end, the new monthly Food of Place program kicks off the New Year with a wine sensory experience this month, followed by a backyard beekeeping and honey harvest class in February. Spring will bring classes on topics like mustard blending and jam making.
