This concert is presented as part of the Molly Blank Jewish Concert Series to celebrate the role Jews have played in music. The final concert in the Molly Blank Jewish Concert Series will feature two singers and a pianist from The Atlanta Opera performing hits of the Broadway stage. Musical theater writing team Rodgers and Hammerstein's popular Broadway musicals initiated the “golden age” of musical theater. Irving Berlin was an American composer and lyricist of Belarusian-Jewish origin, widely considered one of the greatest and most prolific songwriters in American history. Steven Sondheim, at the age of 10, was mentored by Oscar Hammerstein II and grew up to earn the New York Times' praise as “the greatest and perhaps best-known artist in American musical theatre.”
